Type R; fondly known by us as Graeme's Bazooka, was designed for the 201 Bishopsgate/ Broadgate Tower job that we’re just completing with MBLD. We developed 2 types; a CDMR111 version and a Cree XRE LED version, which are being used together to illuminate the waterfall sculpture within the tower block. Mixing 10w of blue and green LEDs MBLD discovered was the most energy efficient way of providing the colour wash (produced more light than 35w of filtered metal halide) whereas the 35W CDMR lamp is still more efficient for the white lighting element. The fitting’s aesthetic and proportions are a reflection of the mechanical restraints imposed by thermal considerations.
